During the few months preceding the ICANN 51 Los Angeles Meeting in October, TLD Registry has been busy traveling and launching new and exciting programs. Check up on what we’ve been up to this past month and what we’ve accomplished!

A Look Back At August

Registrar Network Continues to Expand -- New Visits in Beijing, Xiamen and Foshan

TLD Registry and .CLUB teamed up last month and ventured out together to Beijing, Xiamen, Foshan, Zhuhai, and Hong Kong. This trip to China was the perfect opportunity to connect with Chinese consumers, domainers, investors, partners, potential new registrars, and domain enthusiasts. TLD Registry met with 12 different registrars and aftermarket service providers. Domain business meetings aside, TLD Registry was also able to launch their brand new Chinese Domain Ambassador Program and host multiple Mid-Autumn Festival parties alongside .CLUB. After the conclusion of the China mission trip, the team stopped by Hyderabad for World Domain Day and Bombay in India before heading back home.

Chinese Domain Ambassador Program Launched on

中文域名大使项目8月18日在北京正式启动
On August 18, 2014 in Beijing, TLD Registry launched their grassroots Chinese Domain Ambassador Program for young domain entrepreneurs. In response to the positive feedback after Chinese IDNs went live from a group of young Chinese Mainland domainers, we reached out to these enthusiasts and have built friendships over a couple months. Because of this reaction, we decided to establish the Chinese Domain Ambassador Program to support these young entrepreneurs to improve their professionalism and expand their understanding of global opportunities, techaniques, and business models. At the launch of the program, the young creative entrepreneurs are assigned as Ambassadors and gain access to our reserved premium domains, direct contact with our experts, an outlet to exchange ideas and business plans, invitations to events hosted in China, as well as a certificate of participation and a flashy t-shirt!
Through this program, we are able to localize ourselves in China with a grassroots approach. This innovative support program validates the commitment TLD Registry has to Chinese netizens and domainers.
2014年8月18日，T域通联达在北京启动了面向青年域名创业者的草根项目中文域名大使项目。作为对中文国际化域名上线后所获得的积极反馈的回应，我们与中国大陆的这些青年米农取得联系，经过几个月的交流和沟通，我们彼此之间建立起了深厚的友谊。因此，我们决定成立中文域名大使项目来支持这些青年创业者，帮助他们提升专业知识并加深他们对全球机遇、技术和商业模式的理解。推出该项目后，我们选拔出对域名投资及学习域名知识有浓厚兴趣的青年作为域名大使，他们将有机会获得我们保留的优质域名，直接与我们的专家进行沟通，进行思想和业务规划交流，参与在中国举办的活动，并且取得参与证书和一款炫酷的T恤！

Mid-Autumn Festival Party Beijing Aug.19, Xiamen Aug.21
中秋晚宴：8月19日 北京， 8月21日 厦门
On August 19, TLD Registry and .CLUB Domains kick-started a 3-day series of Mid-Autumn Festival Parties in Beijing and Xiamen. The Beijing Mid-Autumn Festival Party was hosted at the Park Hyatt Hotel where more than 160 people from different registrars and media joined the festivities. As a final prize for lucky draw, two premium domain names: 嫦娥.在线 and woaibeijing.club (one from TLD Registry and one from .CLUB respectively) were given out at each of the parties, as well as smaller prizes such as Pure Finland chocolate and 50 Cent headphones.
This year the Mid-Autumn Festival, commonly known as the “Moon Cake Festival" or "Moon Festival” falls on September 8th. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th month according to the Chinese calendar on a full-moon. The festival celebrates the coming together of family and friends to give thanks for harmonious unions and pray for a successful future. It is often celebrated by the decorations of lanterns and consumption of “moon cakes” (special food representing the moon and union of family).
8月19日和8月21日，域通联达和.CLUB 顶级域名分别在北京和厦门举办了跨时三天的数场中秋晚宴。北京的中秋晚宴举办地点在柏悦酒店，共有160多位来自各大注册商和媒体的人员与我们欢度佳节。晚会上，域通联达和.CLUB顶级域名送出了芬兰巧克力、50Cent耳机等纪念品。两家公司还分别送出了具有特殊意义的优质域名。域通联达送出了“嫦娥.在线”，.Club送出了Woaibeijing.club。
今年的中秋节是在9月8日。根据中国老黄历，在每年第八个月的第15天可以观赏到满月的美景。中秋节是亲朋好友团聚的好日子，人们在这一天张灯结彩，赏月吃月饼，为彼此的亲情和友情庆祝，期待一个更加美好的未来。
World Domain Day: Aug.24 Hyderabad

This year, World Domain Day was held on August 24, 2014 in Hyderabad, India at the Avasa Hotel. We would like to congratulate TLD Registry’s own CEO Arto Isokoski and CMO Simon Cousins for being featured guest speakers. With their deep-rooted expertise in Chinese IDNs, Arto and Simon demonstrated their insight on the potential and current success of Chinese domain names such as Dot Chinese Online and Dot Chinese Website.
The TLD Registry team in China presented an hour long masterclass about the growth of Chinese domain names, how to utilize TLD Registry’s ChineseLandrush.com tool, and the business platform for Chinese domain investment. Through this opportunity to reach out to Indian investors as well as investors all over the world, TLD Registry hopes to gain an increasing amount of support for Chinese domain names.
We are delighted to be involved with such an innovative idea and be given the opportunity to share it with the rest of the domain name industry in India.

On August 26, TLD Registry had the pleasure of hosting dinner with our friends at Radix Registry. .CLUB, Donuts Inc, ResellerClub, BigRock, and Endurance were also in attendance at one of Bombay's most popular bars. It was a great way to reconnect with partners and some of TLD Registry’s registrars.

On Wednesday August 6th, Google announced that gmail now accommodates non-English script. This allows non-Latin based languages to input characters into their email addresses. A very exciting step towards universal acceptance that has been long awaited since the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) approved a non-English email address standard in 2012. Non-English speaking communities have anticipated the release of IDN emails since email was accessible to the general public. Users no longer feel limited by their native language with this convenient and ground-breaking innovation.

Chinese Character of the Week
“联”的话源
“联” (lian2), whose left half is “ear” and right half means “garrison”, doesn’t seem to make much sense. To get its real meaning, we should take a look at how it’s written in Traditional Chinese: “聯”. In its original form, the right half of it actually means “silk” or “thread”. Putting the two halves together, it means “to connect, to unite, to relate”, like two ears being connected by the face, unbroken like stream of silk or thread.
“联”的繁体写法是“聯”，左边是耳，右边是丝。《说文》解：“联，连也。从耳，耳连于颊。从丝，丝连不绝也。”清代学者段玉裁注解道：“周人用联字，汉人用连字，古今字也。”就是说，“联”和“连”的意思原本等同，只是前者的使用时间更早。
