Chinese Domain Name Roadtrip 2014 Austin-Phoenix-LA: October 9-12

On October 9 - 12, 2014, TLD Registry will be embarking on a week-long road trip across the southwest United States, bringing with them the popular Chinese trend of "pudding noodles", and the advocacy and education of Chinese Domain Names to interested (and hungry) potential investors. Beginning in Austin, Texas from October 6-8, the TLD Registry executive team will be occupied with industry meetings and team workshops. Then the team will be travelling to Phoenix, Arizona to connect with industry members and reach out to locals in hopes of introducing the world's most-sold Chinese "new gTLD" IDNs.  From Phoenix, the team will then be driving on their way to Los Angeles, California - just in time for ICANN 51. The combination of Chinese domain names, pudding noodles, a multi-state road trip, parties in Beverly Hills, and media outreach, the Chinese Domain Name Road Trip 2014 will surely pique the interest of some high tech business folks - and turn a lot of other heads in the process as well.

TLD Registry’s ICANN 51 Party in Los Angeles: October 12

On Sunday October 12, TLD Registry will be co-hosting an afternoon party in partnership with our friends at .CLUB Domains at LA’s best contemporary Chinese restaurant, Chin Chin in Beverly Hills. The event will be attended by the first 70 of our many partners and friends who have RSVPed!. It will feature performances by a lion dance team, classical Chinese musicians, and much more exciting entertainment.  The party goers will enjoy a fun afternoon with fellow industry leaders at one of Los Angeles well-known spots.

ICANN 51 Los Angeles: October 12-16

From October 12-16, ICANN 51 will be hosted at Los Angeles’ Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Three times a year, attendees travel internationally from all parts of the world to attend the domain industry’s most important meeting. Advancing ICANN stated goal of “one world, one Internet”, the meeting unites the Internet community to discuss our industry’s latest policies and issues. TLD Registry is proud to be able to participate alongside global and individual leaders collaborating to diversify and evolve the Internet.

Pure Finland Investment Seminar and Finnish Ambassador Reception: October 23

Pure Finland is a Finnish government project focused on introducing culture and business opportunities from Finland to Chinese audiences. As some readers may know, TLD Registry was founded by Finnish entrepreneurs. Through this year’s 4th quarter, Pure Finland will host events on different subjects, such as investment, education, pop culture and tourism. TLD Registry will participate and co-host several events concentrating on Chinese investment opportunities and domain name business. On October 23, TLD Registry will support the Pure Finland Investment Seminar in Beijing. It will be a great opportunity to learn more about Finland and Chinese domain name investment opportunities from TLD Registry, a leader in Finnish-China business.

Synonymous with domain name investing, the 10th T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference will take place from October 30 to November 2. At this time, members of the TLD Registry executive team will be traveling to Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. T.R.A.F.F.I.C. is intended for leading corporations, individuals, and investors in the domaining industry. Dot Chinese Online(.在线) and Dot Chinese Website (.中文网) implemented in case study in EURid’s World Report on IDNs 2014

CHINESE CHARACTERChinese Character of the Week 本周汉字

Pinyin: pǔ

Meaning: Universal; general; widespread

Etymology: “普”, when torn apart, consists of “并” (in Traditional Chinese) and 日. The former means “two persons standing next to each other”, while the latter refers to the sun. As a whole, the character today means “general”, “universal”, “widespread”. But technically, its original meaning was “the sun stops shining”. There are multiple hypothesis about where the transfer of meaning comes from:

  1. Since the top half of the character represents two persons standing together, it might give people the impression of “universal”;
  2. If the sun stops shining, the whole world should be pitch black in every corner, hence “universal”;
  3. The character that actually means “universal” is “溥”, which reads identical to “普”. Somebody was confused by the two, and made a mistake somewhere in the Chinese history. The mistake was somehow became widespread, finally becoming the norm after being passed down for generations.

字源：“普”，字形从日从并，原意为“日无色”，即太阳失去光芒。至于如今为何变为“普通”、“普遍”之意，有几种不同的说法：
