Travel to and from Macau
The former-Portuguese colony of Macau is today a Special Adminstrative Region of the People's Republic of China. First adminstered by Portugal in the 16th century, the peaceful transfer of sovereignty was made to China in 1999. Macau neighbors Hong Kong (to the east) and the Chinese mainland province of Guangdong (to the north).
Today's Macau is a vibrant superstar of Asia. With a thriving economy based on tourism, gaming and textiles, its citizens have the second-highest life expectancy in the world. Portuguese culture, architecture, food and language has remained an energetic influence on the tiny province; Macau's blend of Portuguese heritage and Chinese energy is unique in the world.
